2018 National Libraries Week
When you think of the value you receive from your library, what comes to mind?
Do you think of all the materials that you were able to borrow instead of purchase? The books, movies, audiobooks, e-books, cake pans? Considering that new books range from $10 – $30 each depending on type (paperback, hardcover, board books, and Large Print are just a few formats available at the Library), audiobooks often start at $30, and movies can be $5 – $25 each, being able to simply borrow rather than buy definitely helps stretch your budget.
Or maybe you think of the programs – opportunities provided where you can learn new things or meet up with others who enjoy the same activities. Book clubs meet at the Library – and more are helped along by ordering multiple copies so everyone in the group can read the same title to aid the discussion. Story Times start children on an early path to enjoying books and the time spent becomes a social event as well for parents and caregivers. Elementary aged children are challenged to grow their creativity at LEGO™ Club, and the Summer Reading Program brings a variety of opportunities to explore cooking, building, travel, art, learning, and more. All free admission, programs at the Library provide valuable service.
But maybe it’s simply the opportunity to visit the Library. To come and browse the collections, to read in one of the seating areas, to play in the playroom with your children, to use the computers or free wifi. To read the newspapers, meet up with a friend, or use the printer to make copies of documents that you need. To browse the Used Book Store for a $0.50 paperback to take on your trip or a $4 coffee table book to give as a gift. To study at one of the tables, to research your family history, or to take a proctored exam. These are all reasons to celebrate having a local library as well.
This week, April 8-14, is National Library Week and we are thinking of the ways many people in our community have used the Lindsborg Community Library in the past year. So many materials borrowed, events attended, and visits took place in 2017… and we continue to build on that as we go forward in 2018.
