This summer we’re exploring A Universe of Stories at the Library and Beyond! A wide variety of events and self-paced challenges for children, youth, and adults will be available throughout June and July.
Meet Self-Paced Challenges for Prizes
Join the fun with these self-paced Reading Challenges! Ages 0-5, track books as a part of “1000 Books Before Kindergarten.” Eighth grade & Younger, pick up your Summer Reading Program Mission Logs to track minutes read and earn great prizes from our sponsors. Teens & Adults, submit slips for each book read into our Reading Jar for chances to win a prize from our drawing. All prize drawings will be held July 31 at noon.
This year we will also have a Coloring Contest with prizes for artists in child, youth, and adult divisions. Coloring pages, created by local artist Shelly Carlson, celebrate Lindsborg’s 150th Birthday and are available at the Library. To enter the contest, return your coloring page before Friday, July 26 to be displayed at the Library. Prizes will be awarded July 31.
Events for the Whole Family
Come to the Library for the Kick Off Party Saturday, June 1 @ 1PM to celebrate the beginning of Summer Reading Program with our ice cream social. All ages are invited to join us for ice cream, summer library information, and fun!
Library Game Nights will be held Friday nights, June 7 & 28 @ 7-9PM. We will have several tables set up for board games, card games, and puzzles. Bring your own or come play the Library’s games with family & friends of all ages!
The Library will be one stop on the monthly Makers Street: Lindsborg Art Walk the 2nd Friday nights 5-8PM for make-and-take projects for all skill levels. On June 14, we will be weaving mug rugs. On July 12, we will be making pie crafts.
The Harry Potter Mystery Night will return this summer Saturday, July 27. Doors will open at 5:30 and game play starts promptly at 6PM. In addition to being sorted, solving puzzles, finding items, and completing the quest, there will also be trivia portions for you to help your House earn (or lose) points to win!
Weekly Events for Specific Ages
The Library has two Story Time program each week. Books & Babies meets Tuesday mornings @ 10:30AM, June 4 – July 23 and has a focus on more music for children age 0-2 years. Tales for Tots meets Friday mornings @ 10:30AM, June 7 – July 26 with longer picture books and guided playtime for children age 2-5 years. Both groups are intended for children to attend with an adult.
Story Times are approximately 20-30 minutes in length, with extra gathering and lingering time for play. As part of our Summer Sensory Play, we will have water tubs on June 18 & 21, July 23 & 26. Tales for Tots will also have sensory play with kinetic sand on July 5.
Space Explorers meets Thursdays @ 4PM. This 60 minute program for K-6th graders has a variety of LEGO™ Club, Art, Cooking, and Building Challenges. LEGO™ Club builds will stay on display at the Library until the next session; other weeks will create make-and-take projects. The schedule will be: LEGO™ Creative Design (6/6), Art Make & Take (6/13), Stomp Rockets (6/20), and Cook & Eat (6/27), LEGO™ Master Builders (7/11), TBA (7/18).
Special Guests from Rolling Hills Zoo
Rolling Hills Zoo will return to the Library, bringing the Zoo to You on Wednesday, July 24 @ 10:30AM and Thursday, July 25 @ 4PM. A yearly favorite, we will both learn about animals and see some as well! Both of these two sessions designed for age K-8th grade, present the same program, so choose to attend one that best suits your schedule. An additional session of Zoo to You for Children 5 & Younger will be held Friday, July 19 @ 10:30AM. This special session for our youngest readers will be a different program from the other two.
Movies: to Educate & Enjoy!
Come to Watch and Learn for hour long showings of documentaries on the 1st & 3rd Mondays @ 7PM with an optional discussion to follow. In June, we will be showing “A Year in Space” and “Wild Way of the Vikings.”
We will finish the summer with a Movie Night on Monday, July 29 @ 7PM. This year the movie will be people’s choice, so be sure to watch for more details to come on how you can help choose our movie!
