Programs for Children

The Lindsborg Community Library currently offers program events for children birth – 6th grade. School Year Programs run September through early May, with a winter break over the end of December and beginning of January. The Summer Reading Program is held each year in June & July.  Always Available Programs, such as treasure hunts, coloring, or activity tables, are usually presented on a monthly basis. These activities are available for you to enjoy anytime you visit the Library and are often offered for 1 – 2 weeks.

Details for current programs are listed below.

Books & Babies Story Time is a 30 minute intro-to-books program featuring music, puppets, board books and rhymes. This program is designed for babies and their parents or caregivers to attend together. The current session runs January 8 through May 7 on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM.

Tales for Tots Story Time is a 30 minute picture book program featuring music, puppets and guided play. This program is designed for children accompanied by an adult. The current session runs January 11 through May 10 on Fridays at 10:30 AM.

If you aren’t sure which story time your child would enjoy, try both and choose your favorite (or both days!). Younger and older siblings are welcome to join us as well.

The LEGO™ Club is an hour program for children Kindergarten to sixth grade. In January 2019, we will be adding our LEGO™ Club Code, the ability for builders to earn points for prizes, and presenting two contrasting styles of LEGO™ building: Creative Design & Master Builders.

Following the LEGO™ Club Code accounts for half of all points possible to be earned. The Code lists four expectation: Listen to directions, Everyone builds their best work, Grow your building skills, and Only respectful words.

To earn points builders will self-assign points on how well they followed the LEGO™ Club Code each day, along with how well they incorporated the creative prompt or completed the engineering challenge. The Club Leader will track Creativity, Engineering, and Code points for each builder; at the May 9 club day, all builders will earn prizes according to the number of points they have collected January – May 2019.

Creative Design will feature a prompt followed by free form building of anything builders want to create. All builders who can explain their build’s connection to the prompt will receive creativity points. Master Builders will feature engineering challenges followed by testing. All builders who complete the challenge will receive engineering points; the builds that perform the best under testing will receive additional points.

LEGO™ Club will meet the second and fourth Thursday of each month, 4:00 – 5:00 P.M. at the Library for builders in Kindergarten – 6th Grade. Creative Design days will be the second Thursday of each month; Master Builders days will be the fourth Thursday of each month.

Upcoming Club Dates are January 10 & 24, February 14 & 28, March 14 & 28, April 9 & 25, and May 9. Bricks are provided by the Library… just bring your imagination!
