05.05.2020: Library Update

Starting Wednesday, May 6, the Lindsborg Community Library will be offering curb-side and delivery services while social-distancing measures are in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Here’s how it will work:

1. Log in to the Library Catalog and place reserves for what you want to check out. To sign in, your username is the number underneath the barcode on the back of your card and your password is preset to the last four digits of your phone number.

When you find the item you would like to check out, click on it to display the full record. There will be a button that says “Reserve this item.” Click it to place your request.

If you need assistance, you can also call a Librarian at 227-2710 on Monday – Friday, 10 – 6 or Saturday 10 – 2.

2. Librarians will check out your items, place them in Ziploc bags with your name on the front, and set them out on the bookcase in the front entry way.

3. Come to the Library front entry to pick up your items. If you are unable to pick up your items in person, we will also have delivery service available.

If you are sick, please request delivery service.

4. Return your items to the book drop when you are finished.

5.  All materials will be quarantined before returning to the shelves. This process includes a three day isolation before items are checked in and returned to Library shelves.

Delivery Service Also Available

If you are sick or are unsure if you be able to pickup your items in the time the front entry will be open, we are also offering delivery service. In order to receive this service, simply add these steps.

1. After you have placed your requests, call or email the Library with your address. If we are unable to answer the phone, leave a message on our answering machine. Our phone number is 785-227-2710 and our email is lindsborgcommunitylibrary@gmail.com.

2. Librarians will place your requests in a designated location for delivery on Monday and Friday afternoons, 1-3.

3. Librarians or volunteers will place your items near your front door or another weather-protected location you offered when giving your address.

4. If you would like someone to pick up your items when you are finished, call or email the Library for a pick up appointment. Place your items in a weather-proof bag, such as the Ziploc bags they were delivered in, and put them in the designated pick up location near your front door.  You may also return library items to the book drop at your convenience.

We thank you for your understanding and hope you stay healthy!

05.01.2020 Gradually Reopening the Library

We are glad to announce that we are beginning the process to gradually reopen the Library! We currently have a four stage plan that has been reviewed by the McPherson County Health Department that we would like to share with you.

Stage 1 begins with all Library staff returning starting Monday, May 4 to prepare for our reopen by training on updated procedures and catching up on Library tasks from the past month. Patrons are welcome to return their books through the book drop for Librarians to check in.

Stage 2 is set for May 6: a return of curb-side and delivery services. Librarians will be onsite Monday – Friday 11AM – 3PM to fulfill requests and reference services. Stage 2 will last at least 2 weeks.

Stage 3: Librarians will be onsite Monday – Friday 10AM – 6PM and patrons will be allowed into the Library by appointment. Curbside and delivery services will continue as requested. Stage 3 will last at least 2 weeks.

Stage 4: Full re-open.

The complete reopen plan includes cleaning, quarantine, and sanitation procedures along with other details of how our services will be updated to keep staff and patrons safe. More details on how Stage 1 & 2 services will work will be posted next week.

Our reopen plan is subject to change, following guidance from State and Local Authorities. Updates will be posted on both our website and Facebook page.

If you have questions, please contact the Library Director at lindsborglibrary@sbcglobal.net. We thank you for understanding and hope you stay healthy!

Libraries Transform: April Renovation

To celebrate 60 years of the Lindsborg Community Library – and look forward to the many years ahead – we have received grants from the South Central Kansas Library System and Smoky Valley Community Foundation to make improvements at our library. Additional funding has been provided by the estate gift the Library received from David J. Nutt.

On March 30, the Library continued our building closure and discontinued curb-side and delivery service in order to comply with the statewide stay-at-home order. At the same time,  deliveries for our grant projects were received. Here are just a few of our pictures from the remodel.

These grants have transformed multiple Library spaces & we are excited to share the process with you. Most of all, we look forward to when we reopen and share our transformed library with you again!

Thanksgiving 2019

As we approach Thanksgiving, there are many things that we are thankful for at the Library. While we are thankful for Library services, check outs, and programs, the people are certainly at the top of our list. Thanks to our volunteers, our sponsors & friends, and our patrons we serve! Our library is the great place that it is because of you.

We will be closed Thursday so that our librarians can spend the holiday with family and friends; Friday we will be open our regular schedule. Happy Thanksgiving!

How to Access Your Library Accounts

The Library circulation system changes are now active and you can explore what your account has to offer!

First, any changes you made to your account information has been reset with the new system. This means that your account username has been reset to the number under the barcode on the back of your library card and your password is the last four digits of your phone number. If you changed it to something easier to remember, you will need to change it again.

Access to the library catalog at https://lindsborg.biblionix.com/catalog/ is available with the reset information. Sign in at the login boxes at the top right corner to change your account information, set up your preferred notification methods, renew or reserve items, and access your reading history. This reading history starts with the new system; if you are interested in a printed list of the history you had in the old system, please contact the Library for assistance.

Access to the Sunflower e-Library should be available to you with the reset username and password. If not, please contact the Library for further support.

Thank you for your continuing patience as we adjust to the changes!

Library Updates Coming November 12, 2019

The Library is changing circulation systems this week! Most of these updates will be for librarians, however, patrons will see the improved changes to our online catalog.

The switch starts today and the new system will be active tomorrow (anticipated time is 10 AM), so please call the Library directly if you want to renew materials, reserve items, or have any difficulties accessing your eLibrary materials this week. More information on how the new catalog can serve you will be coming soon!

Thank you for your patience during the transition!

Automatic Doors Provided by Edward G. Griffith’s Memorial

Pictured with the new automatic doors and memorial plaque are three of Ed’s five children: Corey Griffith’s, Carla Wilson, and Cindy Akagi. Not pictured are Chris Campbell and CJ Griffith’s.

Memorials given by the friends and family of Edward G.  Griffith’s have provided funding for automatic doors at the east entrance of the Lindsborg Community Library.

Adding automatic doors to the Library has been an improvement desired for many years. Both entrances require patrons to open two doors in close succession, which previously reduced ease of access for patrons with wheelchairs, reduced mobility, and families with strollers, among others. Automatic door openers were added to the west entrance in 2013. While installing automatic doors at both entrances was not possible at that time, improving accessibility at the east entrance remained a goal for Library improvements.

Now having both entrances fully accessible to all patrons is a wonderful gift. The Lindsborg Community Library greatly appreciates honoring the memory of Lindsborg resident and library patron Ed Griffith’s in this way.
