Occurring in October of odd numbered years, the residents of Lindsborg host a community-wide festival and don traditional Swedish folk costumes to celebrate the Swedish pioneers who settled the Smoky Valley in 1868 – 1869. The festival features art and crafts, special foods, ethnic music, and other special entertainment while Swedish folk dancers and musicians add to the flavor of the festival.

The next Hyllningsfest will be held October 17 & 18, 2025 and we look forward to celebrating at the Library! Come browse the special collections in our Heritage Room that include fiction and nonfiction about Scandinavia and Scandinavian immigrants to America, local history of Lindsborg and the surrounding communities, genealogy resources, and local yearbooks. While the collections are predominantly in English, there are also available titles written in Swedish.

For the young (and young at heart), the Library will have a scavenger hunt active in the children’s area. Twelve Dala Horse pictures will be hidden in plain sight; when you find them all, come see the Librarian for a small prize!
