Building project remodeling – library staff changes – summer library program – so much has been happening at the Library, it has been been difficult to keep up with all the activity! Today, take a look at the progress that has been made on our first construction phase for the building project!

One of the most noticeable improvements over the past month has been at the exterior of our expansion building: the façade has been waterproofed, new windows added, and the updated board and batten exterior installed.

Inside, most overhead improvements have been completed, including updated light fixtures, new ceiling grids and tiles in the new spaces, and installing registers, grills, and diffusers. All doors and frames are now installed and progress has been made on base trim and door casings. Tile, flooring, and grab bars have been installed in the staff restroom, continuing the progress of bringing that restroom into code compliance.

Painting is in process, with additional coats and finishing planned in the coming weeks. This week, the flooring contractor has been laying carpet throughout the remodeled areas – pictures will be coming soon! The project now turns towards preparing for the circulation desk and break room cabinets, anticipated to arrive in late June.

Construction work remains on schedule to be completed by the end of July 2025. As we draw closer, we will be announcing volunteer opportunities to help reset the Library into our new normal and when we can gather to celebrate this milestone. 05.22.25 Library Clerk Job Opening

The Lindsborg Community Library is taking applications for a Library Clerk to work 16-20 hours weekly starting June 16, 2025. The job description and application are posted below; if your device cannot access the digital copies, hard copies are available at the Library.

A successful candidate will have, at minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent education, and be available to work 4 4-hour shifts weekly at either 10AM-2PM or 2-6PM Monday – Friday. Two required shifts are 2-6PM Tuesdays and Thursdays; the second two shifts are open to negotiation. Occasional 10AM – 2PM Saturday shifts will be required, estimated at 1-2 per month.

This position will focus on circulation desk service, assisting with general library collection management, and active participation as a member of our Library Staff Team. Training over Library specific systems and skills will be provided as necessary.

Apply in person at the Library, 111 South Main, Lindsborg, KS by June 2, 2025. Due to our current construction project, the Library is accessible through the back door at the alley entrance.

05.09.25 Building Project Progress Update

Construction Update: There has been SO MUCH work completed since our last building project update! Construction work continues on schedule to be completed by the end of July 2025, so we have 11 weeks to go before this first construction phase is finished.

Over the last two weeks, all of the drywall has been installed, taped, and finished in both the expansion building at 109 and the new heritage room. This week work has included finishing the heritage room, priming and painting, installing duct work, roughing in power and data, and updating light fixtures. Over at the expansion building, the floor has been leveled where the old entry was and the front exterior wall is ready for new windows to be installed next week.

Check out these highlights — we are especially loving the open space created by demolishing the former administrative office!

Fundraising: we are relieved to announce that no major concerns were revealed in the demolition work of the front area of the Library, so the full remodel of the heritage room continues (as shown above). We are currently raising funds for furnishings (an estimated $45,000) and the second construction phase (an estimated $275,000 – $300,000, depending on how much HVAC work is required). More details will be coming in the weeks ahead, especially as we learn how close actual costs for the first construction phase remain to the budget.
