Library Remodel and/or Expansion Project Considered

Lindsborg Community Library Posted on February 9, 2023 by LibraryStaffFebruary 9, 2023

If you saw or heard about the City Council meeting on February 6, 2023, you have learned that the Library Board is considering possibilities for a Library Building Remodel and/or Expansion Project. Read more for the most current Community Info & Update!

Our Library Vision is to welcome community residents and visitors of all ages in their pursuit of lifelong learning. In order to do that well, we want building features that help meet community needs.

Our current building, while in an ideal central location on Main Street, is bound by buildings on both sides and has extended back as far as the lot will allow. The adjacent building to the north (109 S Main) has come up for sale; could a remodel and/or expansion better serve our community?

The Library Board is considering that question. Should they remodel simply our current building? Should they acquire 109 S Main in order to expand and remodel both buildings into one unified library service center? Either way, the Library Board wants to improve our space in order to better serve our community.

Total cost will not be known until a remodel plan is chosen. Potential funding sources include the Library’s existing capital improvement funds and estate gifts available. Multiple grant applications are planned. Finally, the Library may hold a capital campaign if deemed necessary.

Join our Community Conversations!

What are your thoughts about the Library Board’s current discussion about a possible library building remodel and/or expansion project? When you envision a library building that best serves the needs for our community, what features do you imagine? We want to hear your input and we have multiple options for how you can participate.

Submit your feedback in advance by filling out a paper survey at your next library visit or an electronic survey through Google forms. The paper surveys are available now at the library front desk & the online version is available here.

Join us in person at the Library for a 90 minute conversation about the Library Board’s current plans. Opportunities to ask questions and give input on what you would like to see remain or improve about the Library building will be available. The agenda will be the same at both sessions: Thursday, February 23 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, February 25 at 10:30 AM.

The Library Board will meet Tuesday, February 28 at 4PM to continue the discussion on how to proceed with this potential project. More opportunities to remain informed & contribute to the discussion will be coming as the project continues.

February 2023 News

Lindsborg Community Library Posted on February 8, 2023 by LibraryStaffFebruary 8, 2023

With February’s reminder to appreciate our sweethearts, let’s take the time to ponder: who or what do we love? Count the ways!

At the Library, we love our community: parents bringing their children to storytime, grandpals picking up new picture books to read during school lunch, students coming for school assignments, creatives using the wifi for work projects. Our community is made up of seniors browsing the large print books, commuters picking up audiobooks, citizens using library computers, printer, and copier to work on taxes, out-of-town visitors finding treasures from the used book store.

We love that our Library is a welcoming place to read, to gather with friends, to support and enrich our community. What do you love about your Library?

Join the Friends of the Lindsborg Library

The Friends of the Lindsborg Library is looking for more volunteers to serve on the board!

If you would be interested in meeting 4-8 times a year to help plan co-sponsored library programs, fundraising, and community involvement, please attend our next meeting: Monday, February 20 at 7:00 PM at the Library.

Not able to attend? Not a problem! Contact Library Director Suzanna Swenson or Assistant Librarian Kathy McCord for more information about the Friends Board.

Movie Checkout Experience will soon be Smoother!

The Library is transitioning to storing DVDs in their cases on the racks rather than behind the desk! We hope that this will result in an easier checkout experience, especially for patrons who are borrowing multiple titles or TV series with multiple discs. We plan on continuing to use the notebooks for only Children’s DVDs.

Upcoming Events in February include:

Drop-in Storytime on Tuesday mornings 10 am-12 pm, February 7-28. Come-and-go or come-and-stay for this program of guided play, reading, music, and more designed for families with children age 5 and younger.

LEGO Club on Thursday afternoons 4-5pm February 2-23. Join our hour long program to flex your creative & engineering muscles! Bricks are provided by the Library… just bring your imagination!

Join us for Community Conversations about the Library Board’s current discussion about a possible library building remodel and/or expansion project. When you envision a library building that best serves the needs for our community, what features do you imagine? We want to know your thoughts!

January 2023 News

Lindsborg Community Library Posted on January 6, 2023 by LibraryStaffJanuary 6, 2023

The beginning of January can inspire resolutions for positive change. At the Library, we’re looking to a “New Year, New Chapter” with trying out new seating arrangements, starting updates to our library website, planning for 2023 program events, services, and more!

Do you have resolutions that the Library can help you achieve? Try one of our exercise DVDs; explore the world from home with a book or travel documentary about locations you want to visit; get inspired to pursue better organization with Marie Kondo or the Home Edit; borrow a puzzle or game to spend more time with friends and family.

And if your resolution is to read more in 2023, we can set you up! Come by to browse physical books, audio books on CD, or get started with e-Library platforms Hoopla & Libby. All it takes is a library card – which is free to set up!

Friends of the Lindsborg Library Annual Meeting

Come join us Monday, January 16th at 7pm for the Annual Meeting! There will be refreshments, reports on the successes of 2022, and planning for 2023.

The Friends of the Lindsborg Library (FoLL) Board is looking for more members, both general board positions & board officers. If you are interested in more information, contact our Library Director or FoLL President Diane Reece.

Graphic Novels

Graphic novels are a format, not a genre. They can be fiction or nonfiction, written for child, teen, or adult audiences. Sometimes they are original works; sometimes they are adaptions. At our Library, graphic novels do not have their own section, but are indicated by a red sticker on the spine.

Like comics, graphic novels use pictures as a medium for storytelling. Unlike comics, graphic novels are a longer, novel length story with a complex plot and structure rather than short, interconnected strips. Ask a Librarian for Suggestions on Graphic Novels available now!

There’s still time to join our Winter Library Program!

Purple booklets are available at the front desk; tickets may be submitted for prizes until January 28. These contain self-paced activities and challenges, including a BINGO board of book recommendations.

Upcoming Events in January include:

Drop-in Storytime on Tuesday mornings 10 am-12 pm, January 10-31. Come-and-go or come-and-stay for this program of guided play, reading, music, and more designed for families with children age 5 and younger.

LEGO Club on Thursday afternoons 4-5pm January 12-26. Join our hour long program to flex your creative & engineering muscles! Bricks are provided by the Library… just bring your imagination!

Come join our celebration of Squirrel Appreciation Day on Saturday, January 21, 10am-1pm. There will be squirrel themed searches, crafts, and stories for the young & young-at-heart. Check back here or on our Facebook page for more details to come!

The Library is also celebrating Kansas Day (Jan 29) on Saturday, January 28, 10am-1pm. More details will be coming soon!

If you can’t make it to an event, you are always welcome to visit the Library when it best suits your schedule – we will have come-and-go style fun available when you visit!
