2023 Summer Library Programs are Coming!

Lindsborg Community Library Posted on May 12, 2023 by LibraryStaffMay 12, 2023

This morning for the McPherson All School’s Day Parade, we were excited to join together with the other McPherson County Libraries to promote this year’s Summer Library Programs. With a theme like All Together Now, it just makes sense to bring all these librarians together!

For more details on the Summer Library Program in Lindsborg, check out our Summer Library Program Page. For information about the Summer Library Programs at all the McPherson County Libraries, check out our library partners at the Summer at the Libraries Page.

Whatever you do this summer, make sure you include visits to your library!

April 2023 News

Lindsborg Community Library Posted on April 5, 2023 by LibraryStaffApril 5, 2023

April brings a wide variety of of activities to the Library! It’s National Poetry Month, Match Month with the Smoky Valley Community Foundation, National Library Week, and then Downtown’s celebration of Lindsborg in Bloom!

With all these celebrations going on, we are excited to add one more: the Library is growing! The Library Board has purchased 109 S Main with plans to unite both buildings into one expanded library service center. Watch for more information coming soon – we would appreciate your thoughts in future community conversations as we continue moving forward!

Increase Your Gift with Match Month!

In April, donations to eligible funds at the Smoky Valley Community Foundation will be matched by 100% by a Patterson Family Foundation grant. All donations are tax-deductible and must be received by April 30 to qualify for matching funds. Gifts can be mailed to Smoky Valley Community Foundation, P.O. Box 84, Lindsborg, KS 67456. For online donations, visit https://smokyvalleycf.org/match-month/

The Lindsborg Community Library is one of the funds eligible for matching gifts. This fund has been used to purchase new materials, new computers, and is one of the funding sources planned for our building project. Whatever the eventual use, all gifts will go towards improving our Library’s services to our community.

Many thanks to everyone who chooses to give!

April is National Poetry Month

Browse our displays of poetry books to check out, read a poem, or write your own! Read – or write – poems about your family history, bugs, nature, or any topic you choose!

For those who don’t know quite where to start when writing poetry, we now have Magnetic Poetry kits available to provide prompts. A wide variety of words to choose from are included on magnets for both Kids Kits and Kits for Tweens, Teens & Adults.

Magnetic Poetry Kits will be offered as come-and-go style activities at our poetry month displays, a stay-and-play option for older children at our Drop-in Storytimes, LEGO Club prompts, and during Lindsborg in Bloom on Saturday, April 29.

Many Thanks to our Sponsor! Magnetic Poetry is sponsored in part by South Central Kansas Library System—assisting member libraries to provide excellent service to their communities.

March 2023 News

Lindsborg Community Library Posted on March 10, 2023 by LibraryStaffMarch 10, 2023

In March, we are looking forward to Lindsborg’s Lucky 13th Våffeldagen Celebration on Saturday, March 25!

At the Library, we will have a wide variety of waffle activities for all ages: a waffle scavenger hunt, waffle crafts to create your own wearable waffle accessories, and a LEGO mosaic of waffle people to assemble! We will also be hosting PBS Kids’ Nature Cat, who heard about Våffeldagen and wants to join in the fun with all our waffle adventurers! Nature Cat will have gifts for children, take pictures, and most of all, looks forward to hearing why you love waffles & Våffeldagen!

Just So You Know: Library Building Project Update

Thank you to everyone who participated in February’s Community Conversations & submitted surveys letting us learn your thoughts about a possible library building expansion and/or remodel project!

At the February 28 meeting, the Library Board decided to make an offer on 109 S Main to allow for a building expansion. The offer was accepted and a contract is now pending. If all details proceed according to plan, the sale’s closing date will be March 31, 2023.

We are currently working with architects to develop remodeling plans that will unite both buildings into a single library service center. There will continue to be opportunities for public input as we progress. If you have not yet completed a survey, we are still collecting those so that we can hear as many community voices as possible in order to wisely discern the remodeling plans that will best serve the needs of our community.

Thanks for your continued support! We are excited to see how we can grow, continuing to provide excellent library services to our community!

During Spring Break (March 13-18), join us for both events at specific times & come-and-go style fun for whenever you visit!

Drop-in Story Time: Tues, March 14, 10:00am – 12:00pm Books, music, and play combine for early literacy activities designed for children 5 & younger. Come-and-go or come-and-stay as best fits your schedule.

Snap Circuits*: Tues, March 14, 4:00 – 5:00 pm Explore beginning electronics, designed for ages 8-108!

LEGO Club*: Thurs, March 16, 4:00 – 5:00 pm Come flex your creative & engineering muscles with a challenge for builders K-8th grade. Bricks are provided by the Library… just bring your imagination!

Spring Flower Art: Sat, March 18, 10:30am – 12:00pm Join us to paint cheery spring flowers! Paints will be washable; we still recommend messy clothes or bringing a paint shirt for our youngest artists. All ages welcome.

Bird Scavenger Hunt: All Week, 10:00am – 6:00pm Come find the twelve birds hidden in the Children’s Area and receive a scratch-and-sniff bookmark prize!

*Younger children may participate in Snap Circuits or LEGO Club if accompanied by a teen or adult helper for the entire event.
